Fall 2009
Category: Concept Exercise
We were each given a section of city block to observe for a week> After thoeough observation we were to clarify the personality of our street in two phases, through a map, and through an imposition.

Mapping:
After observing the street during different times of the days and in different situations we each created a map of the most important aspect of our observations. Mine involved how the different aspects of my street stuck out to me during observations in varying circumstances. However, through each observation there was one thing I made a specific attempt to observe, the street cat.

Imposistion:
My goal with my impsoistion was to draw attention to the continual presence of the cat on my street without causing it harm. By placing a podium that imitates a habitat label at a zoo, the street is transformed into a habitat for the cat. Visitors to the street are prompted to observe the cat but not interfere with it. The podium was placed near the sidewalk so passerbys would be compelled to read it. On the day of the critique red bowls of milk were placed at the cat 'hotspots' in conjunction with the map on the podium.
The map and information displayed on the podium.
