Spring 2009

The over-arching theme of Design Technologies II was creating a 'smooth space' between digital and reality. We started out in Sketch-Up. The purpose of our first project was to communicate a childhood memory through a 3-D model. Our second project concentrated on creating a concept to smooth space (break down a boundary, physical or otherwise) between two territories. Those two projects prepared us for our Second Life project in which we had to create a virtual, interactive environment in which students could 'experience' an ocean research expedition (NEREUS).

My childhood memory sketch-up appears to be just a table until the user explores the scene further and discovers the small toy car under the table.

The plan for my second project was to have a TV and video camera placed in the first floor display case of the UT Art building. The camera would record while the TV would play the footage from exactly 24 hours before, breaking the boundry between time and space.
